Amani getting her groove on.

Amani is almost 9 months old…  She seems to like sour things like this lemon!  She wouldn’t let go of it!

I tried giving Amani rice cereal a few weeks back but she wasn’t ready.  This week, she ate it up happily and even wanted more.  We’ll add some yellow veggies in a month or so…

Amani is growing so fast!

We went to a party and Amani literally fell asleep eating her foot!  I’m using the Peanut Shell sling here.  We also have the Ergo and the Moby.  So far, I’m not loving any of them.  I think she is too small for the Ergo, the Moby is too complicated for me to wrap on the fly, the Peanut Shell is ok, but my neck and back were killing me after using it.  I think that when she is a little bigger, the Ergo might be more comfortable…  We’ll see.

I’ve been visiting NC for the past week, which has been really nice because summer here is warm, and we can go to the pool.  I took her into the water, not very far, but we just sort of waded and floated a bit.  She really enjoyed it, I was a bit nervous and thought she might cry with the water being so cold, but she was pretty chill.  I think swimming classes will be a lot of fun!

Amani is 3 months!

It’s crazy, because in many ways, the past three months have felt like 3 years to me.  So much has changed it is hard to really describe in words.  Being a parent is amazing, but it is also incredibly challenging and tough.  In the past week or so, it has gotten more fun because Amani’s consciousness is really waking.  She is much more aware of her environment, and she seems to respond to words, thoughts and ideas that I put out there with gurgles coos and lots of kicks/arm movements.  I also notice that she can see much further, and I think she is tracking a little bit more.  I’m starting to have a little bit more fun with it all, though it’s still def challenging at times….

Amani’s First Concert

This weekend, we decided to go for it and take Amani with us to Lightning In a Bottle, a 3-day festival that showcases a lot of electronic music acts.  We went a couple of years back, and it was great fun, camping and hanging out with the crew.  I really, really wanted to go this year and was feeling blue that we couldn’t go bc of the baby, but then we decided that there was no reason we couldn’t go.  We didn’t camp, but we instead stayed at a nearby hotel and went to the shows during the daytime.  We carried Amani in the stroller and sling, and put headphones on her, and she did great.  Now that she is hitting the 3-month mark, she is more alert and awake, and it seemed like hearing the music and interacting with other people was good for her.  I notice her taking things in more—like when I was on the phone, she seemed to notice.  She also reacts to facial expressions and stimuli around her in general.  The loud music this weekend was probably something I’d only once in awhile, but I think it was good for her.  It was cool to see so many other parents out there, as well, with young children getting their groove on.  I think the nice thing about having your own family is that you/we get to decide how we define/create it.

Hard to believe that Amani is 2 months old today.  She gotten a lot bigger, and now weighs over ten pounds.  It’s crazy, seems like just yesterday that we brought her home from the hospital.  She’s a lot more awake these days—she sleeps off and on during the day, but not as much.  In terms of her growth and development, she can hold her head up decently well now, and her eyes are really starting to develop.  She can’t track yet, but I’m sure she can see people, and recognize who is who…  It’s pretty amazing.
