This weekend, we decided to go for it and take Amani with us to Lightning In a Bottle, a 3-day festival that showcases a lot of electronic music acts. We went a couple of years back, and it was great fun, camping and hanging out with the crew. I really, really wanted to go this year and was feeling blue that we couldn’t go bc of the baby, but then we decided that there was no reason we couldn’t go. We didn’t camp, but we instead stayed at a nearby hotel and went to the shows during the daytime. We carried Amani in the stroller and sling, and put headphones on her, and she did great. Now that she is hitting the 3-month mark, she is more alert and awake, and it seemed like hearing the music and interacting with other people was good for her. I notice her taking things in more—like when I was on the phone, she seemed to notice. She also reacts to facial expressions and stimuli around her in general. The loud music this weekend was probably something I’d only once in awhile, but I think it was good for her. It was cool to see so many other parents out there, as well, with young children getting their groove on. I think the nice thing about having your own family is that you/we get to decide how we define/create it.
